Hello I am researching the surname Cotton in the Hanley SOT area. The only information I have is as follows, William Cotton Born 1843 Probably in Hanley .In the 1881 cencus he was living in the Shelton district of Hanley with his wife Anne Maria Cotton (nee Roberts) born 1856 in Hanley . Samuel Cotton age 3 yrs and Margaret J Cotton age 13 yrs I should think that this is William Cottons 2nd marriage as Anne Maria would have been too young to have been Margarets Mother. I have not had much luck yet tracing Williams origins, in fact you are the only one who so far seems to be looking for Cottons in the potteries, I would be most interested to hear from you although I doubt that my ancestors would have owned a pottery, as he was entered as a labourer in 1881.
