Hello Everyone I'm more or less a newbie to this list although I have been on the FH trail for almost thirty years. Anyone on the old Staffordshire list might have known me by my old Netscape or Freeserve addresses. Hello again to Norman Holt if he's on this list, also Dave Grahl and Lauren Brockman, also Joy Stacey in Oz. It is because of these three that I am back on the Potteries trail, still chasing my HUGHES family in Hanley but have just had a break through due to unearthing their past emails to me. Another success is the change over from pay per telephone call to monthly fee for my Internet, and a bigger PC. What a difference! It has opened up a new world of FH research for me. No more worrying about how long I'm on the net, and able to do more extensive research, especially on the Freebmd site. Last night I found the marriages of two of my gr-grandfather's sisters, subject to confirmation by certificate. Joy in Australia found the marriage of their brother EDWARD HUGHES to an EMILY HARVEY, in 1902, although his age is wrong by about six years and needs investigating further. He was defiantly born in 1867 and not 1836 as the marriage details suggest. What I'm after now are possible sightings of the sisters in the 1881 and 1891 census for the Shelton area. The parents were ROBERT HUGHES and MARGARET nee TAYLOR both born in BAGILLT, NORTH WALES and resident in 45 Denbigh St, Hanley in the 1881 census. The eldest daughter JANE born 1852 in Bagillt, married FREDERICK MOSTON in the first quarter of 1874 and their son Robert Hughes Moston died in Denbigh Street in 1879, so it's possible they were living in Denbigh Street in the 1881 census. For the second daughter SARAH, born 1856 in Bagillt, and living with her parents in 1881,1 there are three possible marriages. To JAMES GOODWIN or JOHN LOWNDES in 1881, or HARRY PLANT in 1890. I think Edward's wife died on 6/12/1940 as there is an entry in my G-grandfather's birthday book for that date which just says Emma Hughes, but still checking on this. Can anyone help my search, pretty please? Dorothy J (Llandudno)
