I would be most grateful if a list member could help me trace a family named LANDOR, who lived in 'The Riddings', Rugely, in the 1930s, and possibly the 1940s. I recently 'discovered' a 1st cousin (twice removed), named Alan Wilson DUNCAN (b.1892), who served in the 2/8th Gurkha Rifles in India, and retired to England after the 2nd World War. In his military records, which I've seen at the British Library, he listed as his next of kin his uncle, 'R.H. LANDOR, The Riddings, Rugely' ( I don't know if 'The Riddings' should have been 'The Ridings'). I'm puzzled by the surname 'LANDOR', because Alan's mother's maiden name was DILLON. The LANDOR uncle might have been the husband of a hitherto undiscovered female DUNCAN or DILLON. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Hello Brian. Gosh, a famous name in Rugeley! At the mention of the Landor Society in history lessons, many a Rugeley schoolchild has nodded off......:-) Seriously, there is a local history society for the town begun by the Landor family, you may well be connected - a search on Google found the following address - www.rugeleyweb.net/landor . We haven't lived in 'Rudge' now for 25 years, but there was also a local doctor by the name of Dillon, I think he was still there when we left. Hope this helps, Regards, Penny Ewing.
Hi Penny, Thanks very much for responding to my message. It's encouraging to know that I might find something. I'll follow up the local history society.
