    1. Help please
    2. Hi all. Wonder if anybody could suggest how i can find out when my gr-gr-grandfathers father was born, when he died or who he married. I know that Joseph Evason died before 1867 when William married as i have a copy of William's marriage certificate. They married in Wolstanton. I have looked on the 1861 census but can find no record of William or his father so i am presuming that Joseph died before this. Any help of suggestions would be gratefully recieved. 3. Joan - several options , 1 You know when William was born and that his father was Joseph - if you get a copy of his birth cert that will give you the name of his mother full maiden name and where they were living when William was born. 2 How old was William on his wedding cert ? was he about 22 ? if so you could look at the 1851 census index. There is one Evason and 1851 but there are other spellings of the name as well. I will send you the 1851 and see if that makes sense to you 3 On that census luckily he has his mother in law with him and wife Jane so you know her maiden name and can check that against the cert in 1) above and that will give proof you have the correct family in 1851. 4 You can then search freeBMD for a death of Joseph Evason in Staffordshire between 1851 and 1867. 5 Don’t forget William may have lied on his marriage cert and said his father was deceased when he was alive !!. If the 1851 census above proves correct then look at a few weddings of Josephs other children. If you get some saying he is alive then that will narrow down the search. If you get someone saying that Joseph is alive after 1867 then Wm may have fibbed.
