Hi William, ’m not sure whether your Sarah WAKEFIELD is related to my family. My WAKEFIELDS came from N Staffs/Cheshire borders (Mow Cop) and so far the earliest I have found is a Nathan WAKEFIELD born around 1680. I believe he is my 6 x gt granddad but have yet to confirm this. I have data from various parish records of which Burslem is one, also in Stoke, Norton, New Chapel, and Wolstanton My 2 x gt granddad, Benjamin, was born 1800 at Brieryhurst Farm, Mow Cop. I believe that the family sold the farm around 1820 as it was not big enough to support them all. I know that Benjamin married Hannah HILL and they moved to Aston in Birmingham and there raised their family for whom I now have a great many details. It is quite possible that other family members stayed in Staffs and that Sarah could be a niece of Benjamin. Experience has shown that it is always worth keeping a record of all possible connections. My Hancocks are quiite a bit earlier than yours. I have a Thomas WAKEFIELD who married a Mary HANCOCK in 1792. I think this Mary may have died because parish registers show the death of a Mary WAKEFIELD, age 24, in 1801. Then in 1803 there is a Thomas Wakefield marrying a Lucy HANCOCK. This could have been her sister, but that is just speculation. They could be related to your later HANCOCKs. Hanley is part of Stoke so in the same area of N Staffs.- who knows! Penny
