Amy, Might this be your Onions family?? Looks like a second marriage for his wife! Thanks Keith for the quick response......This sure looks good...what does not make sense to me is the other step-daughters named Biddulph. I followed one of the daughters to the 1871 census and her father was a William Biddulph and the wife was Mary.......all from Biddulph.............now he is married to a Sarah..and it does seem that Jane Pitwell must be yet another step-daughter. I wonder if he married once again for the 3rd time to this Sarah. I have tracked this Edwin and his first wife was Emma???...they had a child Edwin and Mary...so this Mary listed here is definitely his daughter. I note that the census acutally lists the wife as the Beer Seller....I wonder could she have actually owned the Hotel and have been the step-parent to the Biddulph girls. Oh....this is so confusing..... Thanks for this info......much appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith Hackney<mailto:keith.hackney@xtra.co.nz> To: ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [Pots] Brindley Ford and Biddulph - Onions Surname Amy, Might this be your Onions family?? Hi again Ruth, Jane Pitwell is definitely Sarah's daughter as they came from the same place. Mary could be her daughter too, how do the ages and birthplaces of the Biddulph girls fit in with the other two?? I couldn't find them on the 1881, do you have a reference? Keith
Hi Keith, The 1881 - reference is RG11 3535 page 10 Biddulph St Lawrence #41 on the page....Onions...Blk Bull Railway Hotel. the daughters are 17,15,14.. all very close in age to the other two. In 1871 ( I think the same family....RG10 2845 page 32 family # 154 he is listed as Edwin Onions...wife Emma, son Samuel ( my direct connection), daughter Mary. In 1891 I found them on RG12 2158 Folio 43, page 23 family #132 Edwin is listed as Beerhouse keeper...he is a widower...my Samuel is now back and he and his family are living with Edwin. What is so confusing about this...is I'm not sure I have the right family in 1881, but everything else fits. In the BMD register I found and Emma Onions who died in 1873 and a Sarah Onions who dies 1891. So it could be possible. Thanks for all your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith Hackney<mailto:keith.hackney@xtra.co.nz> To: ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 9:52 PM Subject: Re: [Pots] Brindley Ford and Biddulph - Onions Surname Hi again Ruth, Jane Pitwell is definitely Sarah's daughter as they came from the same place.
