Hi William, My husband's ancestors were from Norton & Hanley. The earliest record we have is James Mayer who married Hannah Yardley at Hanley Chapel in 1849. His father was John who was a miner. the names alternated between James & John. We have a James Mayer who married Mary Ellen Hancock (nee Hartshorne) in 1908. She was the widow of Jonathan Hancock. I would be interested to know if there is a connection, although Mayer seems to be a common name in the area. best wishes, Jeanne >>ASTON. ??? 1770- >BEARDMORE.
