Yes, I always though my grandmother Martha Mayer must have been German, perhaps Jewish, because all I knew about her was that she lived in Liverpool. Then I learnt the family came from Staffordshire, and when I looked on the IGI I realised how many MAYERs there were in the area. Ditto my father's family name of KINSEY.
