    3. Many thanks for your response Jeanne. The earliest Mayer that I have is a Ralph Mayer who was born in Norton in 1832.He married an Edith Withinshaw, and the couple had four sons, among them a Ralph Mayer born in Norton in 1855.This Ralph Mayer married first a Maria Leek, then a Mary Thomas(nee Durber). This Mary Durber was first the wife of a William Thomas until he died.Mary was the sister of my Great-Grandfather Henry Durber, and married Ralph in 1898. Although there is the possibility that Jonathan Hancock may be a Cousin of my Hancock Family, who were born in Hanley, the Surname Hartshorne is also of interest.Harry Thomas the son of William and Mary, married a Lavinia Hartshorne, who was born in c 1878 in Burslem. However Lavinia's Father Samuel,is stated in the Census as being born in Shropshire.
