Very very very tired <g> so a quick reply off the top of my head, It's Pelsall which is part of Walsall, Pelsall is just over an hours walk along the canal (dunno why we call the canal the Ganges, but there you are)to West Bromwich. (canal towpaths were great for a fairly level trip). Greets Green is slap bang between West Brom and Dudley It's St. Peters Collegiate in Wolverhampton, again not too far from either Pelsall or West Brom. Dudley (Worcs for the Town, Staffs for the Castle in the middle of Dudley, just one of those quirks over here as Dudley is actually surrounded by Staffs)is in walking distance of West Brom (BTW I'm not making these walking distances up, I've done it on many an occasion). All of these can be found on Mike Harbach's GENUKI pages for Staffs (great site) on of the best GENUKI sites extant. The Rootsweb list for this lot is Black Country, they'll answer most of your questions about this area. You may have a problem with those very common names around here, and I know that Russell will take you to at least four other Black Country towns inc the one where I live <g>. BTW with the Mormans, you may try records from their first UK mission which was at 23 Booth Street Handsworth (Staffs at the time) now part of Birmingham since 1911, swapped Counties from STF to WAR. I am trying to figure out exactly where the following places are in relation to each other. Any help would be appreciated. Is there such a place as PELLSALL, STAFFORDSHIRE? (It appears on the 1851 census as a place of birth) I've also seen this on other documents written as PALLSAL. I've tried putting it in on the net and all it keeps telling me is that I must mean: Wallsal????? ARE THESE THE SAME PLACE? Also, can anyone tell me about West Bromwich? Could this Pellsall be anywhere near West Bromwich? My ancestors were from born in these two places......they were married at St. Peter's Church in Wolverhampton???? (Don't know where that is either in relation to these town).... By 1851 census, they are in West Bromwich, District of Christ Church, Greets Green? By 1860 they had joined the Mormans and sailed for Utah with some of there children being left behind in England. To make matters worse, two of the children that I know about were married in a place called Dudley in Worcester - one says St. Edmunds and the other only "the parish church" of Dudley. If anyone can give me some idea if these places are near each other it sure would be helpful. It is very difficult searching when one does not know where to look. The surnames are Walker and Russell. Thanks, Ruth
Thank you Dave.....this info does help me to at least realize that these places are near each other. I read somewhere where Worcester was surrounded by Staffordshire....I thought this was odd...but guess it is so. Sometimes I've seen Dudley as listed as Staffordshire, then another time as Worcester. I'll be checking out the sites you mentioned also. Thanks so much for the info. I'm definitely interested in the Mormon Mission you mentioned.
