    3. Hello Graeme, The church you are looking for is Manchester Cathedral which is St. Anne's. It was the parish church of the high and the lowly. All the records are available at Manchester Central Library, St. Peter's Square, on microfilm. There are plenty of film readers available so you should not have any problems with accessing the films. 3. As I am coming to England later in the year I am trying to organize my time for greatest benefit. It is going to be a real military exercise. I know this is not the Lancs list but as it is not far away I wondered if SKS on our list with a knowledge of Manchester could help me. I would like to visit the church where my GGGrandparents ( a potteries family) where married in 1841. It is described on the MC as "The Coll & Parish Church" in the parish of Manchester, county of Lancaster. Would anyone know the actual name and the address of the church? I notice also that it is indicated that the marriage was by Licence no 23047. Are these licences available for search? I would be grateful for any help Graeme Adelaide _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

    3. Might be able to get the marriage certificate if you have the names of your gggrandparents. Were they still in England in 1881? In which case they will almost certainly also be on the CD-ROM of the Census. 3. Hi all, I have interests in BOULTON of Biddulph before 1800, Endon in the earlier 1900s and Shelton in the later 1900s. Also BOLTONs of Dilhorne prior to 1800. As far as I know there is no connection between the two until Hannah BOLTON married Thomas BOULTON in 1802 at Norton in the Moors. Does anyone have any connection to James and Sarah BROWN and family of Endon in the early 1800s? 3. Hello Janet, Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my message. It is very kind of you to offer to find out more information for me. My fathers name was THOMAS LEA, and, as he was born in 1894, I guess he would have gone to Grammar/High School in about 1905 - 1910 (ish), but I know nothing for sure. I seem to remember that he won a national prize for his handwriting when he was at school, but do not know if this was when he was in High School or before, in Junior School. If you could find out anything at all (good or bad) I would be most appreciative. All the best, Diana > There was Newcastle High School for boys, Mount Pleasant, Newcastle. 2. Mary W Rogers
    3. The above are my interest names for the early 1800s. Hamlet ROGERS born c1808 married Mary Ann ROBERTS in 1830 at Wolstanton. I can find no record of his birth anywhere though he was born in Staffordshire (1841 census). He died before 1851 so I have no place of birth identified. Mary Ann ROBERTS was probably the daughter of John ROBERTS and Ann CYPLES. I have looked up Spring Wood Rd on an old A-Z just to check, but infact I knew where it was as I nearly bought the cottage with the listed blast furnace renains in the garden about 18 years ago! I am assuming that they would have used the nearby Holy Trinity Church in Chesterton but I can't find out if there are any parish records for it (I believe it was built in 1852) Does any one know where I can find out about the blast furnace or the parish records. 2. di
    3. Greetings fellow listers, My father who was born in 1894 in Stoke on Trent, later moved to 32 Thistleberry Avenue, Newcastle under Lyme, where some of his family continued to live until 1989, when the last of them died. I understand from cousins that his younger siblings were somewhat jealous that my father (being the eldest in a large family), got the opportunity to go to Grammar School, whereas none of his younger siblings were given that same chance. What I would like to know is which school/s he is likely to have attended, living in Thistleberry Avenue, and whether the school he possibly attended would still be there, or whether there would be school records somewhere. If anyone could give me any information or help on this I would love to hear from them. All the best from Diana in Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia

On an old A-Z there is one NE of Kidsgrove at Whitehill. Was there another one? I would have thought that Whitehill would have been classed as Kidsgrove. There is also a church marked at Brewhouse Bank, Whitehill. Does anyone know what it was called and whether there are any parish records? 3. I am trying to locate Brewhouse Bank, census district Wolstanton in 1881. On an old A-Z there is one NE of Kidsgrove at Whitehill. Was there another one? 1. Re: Help Please - re Grammar School
    2. Janet
    3. There was Newcastle High School for boys, Mount Pleasant, Newcastle. The school was joined with the neighbouring grammar school for girls in the 1970's and is now the independent school Newcastle-under-Lyme school. They have a website www.nuls.co.uk I think and a lot of past history of old pupils is kept. What was your father's name and years at the school - I maybe able to find something out for you?
