Dear Jim, I just caught sight of your mention of Shepherd. I have only recently discovered my connection with Shepherd. I have an Alice Ann who married Cain Mayer, but her family came from Whittington in Derbyshire and several of them came to the Potteries before 1881. There is a John and his family, Henry, their families. In the 1891 census there is an Alice, a scholar, whose father was William Shepherd. They came from Surrey. I do not think that these are my Shepherds and there is a Charles Shepherd a commercial traveller who is supposed to come from London, but it is crossed out. Hope this helps if you do not have a connection with my Mayer/Shepherds. Hi all I have found my greatgrandfather on 1901 census living with his daughter at Maccaroni cottages, civil borough Burslem, ecclesiastical parish Cobridge, parliamentary borough Hanley ref is RG13/2596/20/31 sch 165 My question is - Where are / were Maccaroni Cottages? OR How can I do a next door neighbour search on line until I find a street name I recognise on a map? I have searched old maps of the area without luck - do I look the Cobridge side of Burslem or the Hanley side? Any helpful suggestions gratefully received to solve a mystery that is bugging both me and my father. He thinks it may have canal side or Middleport connections (from childhood memory thats fast fading) but that seems out of the area suggested above. Norman, I have got Tettenhall on the 1851 I will not be able to look today but I will look for you tomorrow. The area is HO107/2017. Jean
Norman - Tettenhall is probably in the South Staffordshire census - it's now an area of Wolverhampton. MY LOGAN'S - reference my earlier message of today (0957 hrs) I wish to rectify an error. I should have said they were married about TWO MONTHS AFTER the census of 1851 and therefore she would have been entered as Margaret Moffat LOGAN. She was my G/Grandfather's sister. Sorry for any confusion. - Regards Norman Woods.

Hello to all - I am new to the list and this is my first subscription. Has the 1851 census for Hanley been transcribed?. If it has, I wonder if S.K.S. who has access to it, could please look for my LOGAN ancestors. They may or may not all be living together, but their details are as follows: James Logan Head 50? Believed b. Scotland. Isabella Logan Wife 50? ----------000-------------- Robert Walker Logan Son 26? Denbigh (May say Liverpool) Margaret Moffat Logan Daug 24? - - - - - - -0 0 0 0 - - - - - - - James Gibson Logan Son 22? - - - - - - - 0 0 0 0 - - - - - - - Isabella Sarah Logan Daug 20? - - - - - - -0 0 0 0 - - - - - - - If anyone finds them, I would be most obliged if they can include any other Logan family members especially, John Alexander LOGAN, who is my Great Grandfather and who I have been trying to tie down for two years. I know the offspring were baptised in Denbigh and there is nothing to suggest they weren't born there, but they all, in later censuses state they were born in Liverpool. The ages may also be rounded up/down as this was another 'funny' thing they did. Yours sincerely - Norman Woods.

Hello all, The ISP Blueyonder has been forced to suspend all email accounts (for a short period) for their customers, below is the latest message from them . A few emails seem to have made it through over the past few days, but now there is no chance of that until a fix is in place. I wouldn't try to reply to a BY sub at present as they'll probably not receive it for some time. For info; There are @ 100 subs with Blueyonder on these three lists alone. Dave Listowner: Black Country, Staffordshire, Potteries etc., >From Blueyonder>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Detailed Description We are continuing to try and address the current issue with the email situation. Our efforts are however being hampered by a continued number of connection attempts to PoP3 and IMAP 4 and Webmail. We have therefore taken the decision to suspend all PoP3 and IMAP and Webmail services in order to help with the recovery of this issue. We will advise customers as soon as these services have been re-enabled. Until the effects of these steps are understood we are not in a position to provide any estimated fix time for the full restoration of service. We do not believe we have lost any mail at this point however there may have been some email bounced at the early stages of this fault. However this has now been minimised. The next update on this fault will be provided later tonight

Hi This is my first posting to this list. I have a family of Naylor's originally from Yorkshire who went to Staffordshire and I understand one of them worked in the Wedgewood Pottery as the head thrower. His name was John Henry Naylor b 1859 died 1932, he married a Hannah Morley and they had 3 children Harold, Bella and Mary b 1880. I believe that Harold was Lord Mayor of Hanley at one stage. Does anyone know where I could find out more about John Henry? Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA Chris Page Perth West Oz
