    3. Hi, just thought that I would recommend a new book I purchased this week. It is called "The Iron, Steel and Coal Industry in North Staffordshire - A Brief Account". For anyone who has relatives who worked in these industries it is a really interesting book with very good photographs and detailed maps. It is written by Allan C. Baker in A Railway Bylines Special. 2. Hi , You will probably find that Horde Cane is meant for Horse Lane ( my family also lived there ) in Hanley sorry I can't help you with the 1841 census. J.D. Stoke-on-Trent I am researching EDMUND BADDLEY and SARAH DAYSON. Edmund Baddley born Aug 22, 1817, christened at Bethesda Chapel Albion St. Methodist Church New Connexion, Shelton, Staffordshire. Son of Richard Baddeley and Elizabeth Hulse. Edmund Baddley and Sarah Dayson were married on May 16, 1840 at Bethesda Chapel in the Parish of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. At the time of their marriage, Edmund was a potter, his residence was Horde Cane, Hanley (I'm guessing at te Horde Cane, the writing is hard to read). His father Richard was a colliery bailiff. Sarah Dayson's residence was Northwood, Hanley and her father was Thomas, a farmer. Edmund and Sarah had a son, Thomas, born Nov 22, 1840, supposedly in Hanley. They had another son Edmund C., born Feb 4, 1843 in England. They emigrated to the USA between 1843 and 1847. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has access to the 1841 census for Hanley or Fenton, could you please do a lookup on Edmund and Sarah for me? Also on Richard Baddeley and Thomas Dayson. Many thanks. 3. Hi there, I doubt the address you are looking for is Horde Cane, could it be North Lane, or Norton Lane, which could be much more likely? Have another look at the address Kacky. This would also fit in with the fathers' jobs. Also try www.netcentral.co.uk. as there are some old maps of the Potteries there, and you may find the streets? you are looking for. 3. Hi Joyce, The first thing to check is:- www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk as all marriages held by Newcastle Reg Office are on the database that will eliminate the Newcastle part of the Wolstanton parish. If you have no luck with the search it will almost certainly be at S-o-T (Hanley) Reg Office. Now as Hanley Reg Office holds the registers for over 300 churches/chapels etc. they will not do wide location searches (unless you can pin the marriage down to a specific venue) and may well return your request. We have an eager bunch of people working on the S-o-T Reg Office indexes at the moment but it will be a while before they are added to the database, it includes a large number of the Wolstanton district churches (about 15 to 20). If it was me, I would send to the ONS for the certificate. 3. Hi Joyce, You send to Southport office in Merseyside. Each cert. is now £8.50 I believe. First though go back to BMD and find the reference number or they will charge you more for searching. Wolstanton covers a large area. My relatives were listed as Wolstanton and they turned up in Tunstall! 2. with wolstanton covering marriages from newcastle and stoke on trent districts you could send it to newcastle if they came from that end or hanley if they came from tunstall etc. areas. If the one you send it to does not hold it they will forward the request to the other office. 1. [Pots] New: COLCLOUGH / MANSALL / MANSELL - Stoke T. - Longton
    2. Hi All, I am new to the list and posting my interests, particularly The above surnames COLCLOUGH and MANSALL / MANSELL from the Longton area mainly in Stoke on Trent. Joseph MANSALL married Eliza COLCLOUGH 1854 ((My gt gt gt grandparents)(Longton)(both fathers called Joseph Son: Martin James MANSALL b. 1855 (Longton) (my Gt gt grandfather) M. Annie Maria Wain Jones 1875 (Caverswall) Children: Isabella b.1876 Agnes Elizabeth Colclough b.1877 THEN. Martin moved to Glasgow as a journeyman potter....moved in with my gt gt grandmother Jane McCOWAT...They had 5 illegitimate children including twins (one of whom Eliza Colclough Mansall was my gt grandmother. he then flitted every 10 years backwards and forwards from wife to non legal scottish wife, so that in each census he is in a different country!!! After he was supposed to have died I found him in England back with the wife, living with one legitimate daughter...and one scottish Illegitimate son!!!! If anyone can help or have connections with the above surnames, I would love to know. I have the 1841 census for Staffordshire and am happy to do look-ups to help. Cheers Dawn (From Sunny (Amazing!! Leeds ;o)) )
