Hello Again Pat, I dont know how far you have progressed or what resources you are using but whilst looking for a connection I think I may have found your JACOB HULSE on the IGI born in Longton 18th July 1830. If you dont already have this and would like details plus siblings please let me know. 2. Hello Pat, Not a footballer but a swimmer called Norman Wainwright who was alledged to have been my Grandfather Harry MOORLEY's rival in the Hanley Swimming pool. Norman became an Olympic Champion twixt the two world wars. Stanley Matthews was a post war champion footballer. I think I saw him play for Stoke in the late 40's. Mike Waterlooville

    3. Hi Andy Many thanks for getting back to me, I'm probably telling you something that you already know but Sarah Henshall and James OLIVERs marriage are listed on both FreeBMD and the Staffs BMD sites. No Sarah on my list at the moment but I have not gone back past the 1850s on the HENSHALL line. The Scrubs!, yes court records might be the way to go, I had thought of the local papers of that time but that may be very time consuming. Will let you know of any developments. Best Wishes Henry

    3. Hi Henry, Thanks for your interest. I can see no connection at present but bells do ring when you mention Audley - my current interest is Sarah HENSHALL b. 1817 m. James OLIVER in Stoke. Sarah gives her birthplace in 1881 as Newport SAL but in 1851 as Whitchurch SAL. So in view of your Audley interest there may at some stage be a connection - we must keep in touch. Regarding your man in the Scrubs, I wonder whether there are court records to search - you have a reasonably narrow time range to search, so that's helpful. I wouldn't know where to begin, but someone on the list might do. Good luck in your research. BW Andy. 3. Jane – it is on the Godfrey map – Find LEEK Road – near Sewage Works – You will see DARNLEY Road , and CONWAY Road, and BOUGHY ROAD. Boughey Terrace was on Road. You can check this by looking at the 1891 census and using the street index find Boughey Terrace There is NO Boughey Road ..... I suspect whoever registered the birth was using the old name – It is a very common practice in the Potts To confirm this you can get the electoral register for 1928 from the Library and check who was living at Boughey Road Steve -----Original Message----- From: Petjallen@aol.com [mailto:Petjallen@aol.com] Sent: 14 November 2003 22:17 To: ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Pots] Streets that no longer exist Following on from CHANGED street names - Does anyone know how to find where a street WAS, that no longer exists?? Hi Pat, There is one Thomas WAINWRIGHT (only one) listed in the Stoke City A to Z Book:- Thomas WAINWRIGHT "WAINWRIGHT made one apperence at first team level for Stoke, lining up at inside-left in a 5-1 away League defeat by Aston Villa in Setember 1888. Born localy c. 1864, he played for Stoke St Jude's before his spell at the Victoria Ground and after leaving The Potters he assisted Stoke Priory."
