Hello Listers I wonder if SKS with access to the 1861 census for The Potteries could check for a JOHN BENTLEY aged about 25 and his wife Eliza about the same age probably living in the Fenton area possibly in Talbot Street. TIA Terry Brooks.
List - My Webb family was from Newchapel in Wolstanton Parish. On the 1891 census however, one of them listed his place of birth as Black Bull. I am not familiar with any area around Wolstanton refered to in this way. Has anyone heard of this or know where this might be? Hi List, I am hoping someone can help me with the birth of my grandmother in Longton. Her name was FRANCES BARTON born LONGTON abt 1877. Place of birth I got off the 1901 census in St Helens Lanc's were she married and lived. Had no success on 1881 census for someone her age at that time in Longton or by looking at the BMD. Here's hoping Sue Derbyshire. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.552 / Virus Database: 344 - Release Date: 15/12/03

Ann - the registrar has no details on christenings or baptisms - he only has records for marriages at St Marks - and these are being transcribed onto StaffordshireBMD. I am not sure where the parish records are kept-they are probably now at the local or county record office but I don't know where that is as I no longer live in the area - I'm sure that someone else will be able to tell you, though. The local registrar's address is: Superintendent Registrar, The Town Hall, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 1QQ. I have had a quick look on Free BMD but could only find Elizabeth Jane Johnson, registered in March 1876 for the Wolstanton area (which then covered a large part of what is now Stoke-on-Trent). Thanks. Now, does anyone know if the St. Mark's records are on the IGI? Or filmed by the LDS? I am close to a FHC Library , so if they have been filmed, I can easily get access to them.. I have gotten print-outs of my family from Derbyshire from the late 1700's which have been helpful. Hello Fellow Listers I am hoping SKS with access to the 1851 and or 1861 census could provide me with an early Christmas present? The person I am looking for is William Coxon, born 29th February 1828 in Checkley. His parents were WILLIAM and ELIZABETH. Although I cannot as yet find his marriage, his children to ELIZA were all christened in Dresden the first one being in 1857. TIA Gordon --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
