Ann, Take a look at the following:- www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk Births District = Newcastle-under-Lyme Select a good range of years i.e. 1837 - 1900 and the name MAYER you will get a list of births for Wolstanton, Audley and N-U-L with luck the MAYER born in Silverdale will probably be under Wolstanton Eric ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann Simcock" <ann.simcock@virgin.net> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2005 7:00 AM Subject: [Pots] Silverdale in 1861c > Dear List does anyone know please what the piece number for Silverdale in > the 1861 census is? Hi All I am looking for information on Charles Edward Durose and Bertha. He was born 1875 in Stoke on Trent and married Bertha Evelyn Unwin at Fenton Christ Church in 1901. The last info I can find is in a 1912 trade directory stating he was an Insurance agent in Heron Cross. Any information would be a help. Regards Mike

Dear List I have not posted for some time and as I am trying to sort my information out I am taking one family at a time. At present I am researching my MAYER family. They come mainly from Tunstall and the Norton area. My grandfather, Elijah married Julia YALE. His father, Cain, married Alice Ann SHEPHERD. Cain's father Cain, was killed in the Chatterley Whitfield mining explosion in 1881. His wife was Ellen WRIGHT who was illigitmate. Cain's father, Elijah, (they are nothing if not predictable!) was married to Eliza HANCOCK. Further back there is a link to POTT family. There is also a connection to a James Cook but I do not know what as the Cook name has continued as a middle name down the generations. (It isn't a maiden name ) I would be pleased to hear from anyone who is researching this family. Regards Ann -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hi Lucy SS Mary & Chad as a parish was formed 1899 from parts of Caverswall & Longton St James's parishes. Bapt records start in 1888, when it was St Chad's Mission Church. The actual current building dates back to 1897. Marriages start 1899. Stafford Record Office have the registers, and Hanley almost certainly have them on fiches. NB I have a list of marriages to 1937, if this is of use. Early English style, with aisled and clerestoried nave of 4 bays and a chancel flanked by side chapels. It has 2 bells. Low extension consisting of 2 porches and a baptistery dating from 1910. Large school hall with modern extension lies to ots north. Curate's house in Anchor Rd. This is from A History of Longton, from the Victoria History of the County of Stafford. Hi Michael You will find 1890 Ordnance Survey maps for Staffs at the following website: www.thepotteries.org There are several covering the Fenton area but I think the one you want covering Whieldon Road comes under Great Fenton. Hi all Hoping someone can help. Looking on the 1891 census for Edward Durose it gives him as a farmer living at Grove Farm Fenton. I am trying to find where this might have been. The census sheet also has boat people(near the canal) maybe and a few addresses in Whieldon Road. Looking on a modern map I can see Whieldon Road and Grove Road but no mention of a farm Can anybody point me in the right direction. thanks Mike
