I shall be operating the AYSHFORD TRAFALGAR ROLL CD at the RN Museum Gift Shop during the International Festival of the Sea at Portsmouth for those wishing to search for their Trafalgar ancestors. If your visiting make yourself known. Mike Waterlooville
Hi Keith, thanks for the URL. I found it straight away, not at all where I imagined it to be. I must have gone past it many times and not known it was there. Thank you once again, Regards Dave
Hi David, Bradwell Street still exists, if you go to www.multimap.com, advanced search, put in the street and town. When the map comes up, click on the second bar from the right and it will give a better indication. The street is more Longport than Burslem. Best wishes, Keith
Found this on the Gloucestershire List but on searching it found quite a few entries for staffordshire esp one for John DUTTON born Cheadle STS aged 28 yrs and another for William BAYLEY aged 33 yrs born Stoke STS both were onboard HMS Victory at Trafalgar..... also men from Stafford, Walsall and Wolverhampton <snip> I haven't seen this mentioned on the list (or maybe I wasn't paying attention) but there is a searchable database for the Trafalgar fleet: includes several from Bristol, Somerset, Glos areas. From "advanced search" you can search by placename rather than surname. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/trafalgarancestors/ <snip> regards Bill
Bradwell Street it is then, thank you to all. Does anyone know where that street was, or indeed is ? Thank you again Dave
Hi Babs There was no parish church in either Meir or Meir Heath in 1827. People wld normally have married at Fulford or Stone. I think it has to be Maer Church. Also, there will not have been many cotton spinners in these parts. Hi Jean, Many thanks for your quick reply and info. I think Meir Heath must be the place i'm after (even tho' it was spelt Maer Heath on a census), as it's further north. Would it be possible for SKS who has access to 1841/51 census' help me find details of John WILCOX b. abt 1827/30 Meir Heath, Staffs. Occ. Cotton Spinner. Father John...mother Elizabeth who, on the IGI were married at Maer, Stafford on 20 Jan 1827. I would be grateful for any replies. Thanks again Jean and List, Regards, Babs in Lancashire. ----- Original Message ----- From: "j.ankers1" <j.ankers1@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 20, 2005 2:32 PM Subject: Re: [Pots] Maer/Meir Heath > Hi Babs, Yes, Maer and Meir Heath are two separate places. The name is from the Greek; it translates as *Bright One* Yes it was used a lot, but now not so common. Popularity of names comes and goes.
