    1. Davies, Penkhull
    2. I'm trying to trace any details of the Davies family, who had a newsagents in Frederick Avenue, Penkhull from around 1940 to the late 1960s. Mrs Martha Maud Davies (nee Weymouth) seems to have been my grandmother's sister Her son, Oswald Davies, served in World War II then returned and was running the business in the 1960s. Any information very welcome. Gwyn

    3. Hi Linda, I am not connected but from the response's you have had it looks like you have a some connection to Rupert BASKEYFIELD who was our local butcher in Talke Pits, just down the road from Red Street. He had a son named Charles L BASKEYFIELD who was born about 1938 in Talke Pits. If I remember right there was also a girl named Lily born 1943. Rupert married Lily BURT in 1938 (St Martin's Church - Talke) Best regards - Eric HARRISON ----- Original Message ----- From: "Moorhouse, Linda" <l.moorhouse@lancaster.ac.uk> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 2:09 PM Subject: [Pots] Baskeyfield > Hello, > > Does any one know where the records are held for Jubilee Chapel, > Tunstall? > > Thanks, > Linda > > I am interested in the Baskeyfield name. > > > ==== ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES Mailing List ==== > The List for the Pottery Towns of the Ancient County of Staffordshire >

    3. Hi Keith, Your family took a bit longer to find in 1861! They are living in Red Street, (which is an area, not a street, in the township of Chatterley, Talke) James Baskeyfield H M 31 Butcher Eliza W M 32 Edwin son 9 Rose Ann daur 6 Frederick son 3 all born Red Street. Ref: RG9/1921 HTH Regards, Jean. -------Original Message------- From: Keith Hackney Date: 09/28/05 23:17:27 To: ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Pots] Baskeyfield Hi Listers, The 1881 census (RG11,2703,114,50) shows Thomas (32) and Eliza Davies (47) at Peacocks Hay, Audley, with children Frederick, 23, Herbert, 19, Harry, 15 and Evelyn K, 13, all with surname Baskeyfield. I note that on current maps there is a Baskeyfield Farm in that area. This is obviously a second marriage for Eliza, and Staffs BMD shows Eliza Baskeyfield marrying Thomas Davies in 1879. I am keen to find Eliza's first husband, and father of her children, and have a candidate, James Baskeyfield who married Eliza Ryder in 1852. I wonder if someone could kindly check the 1861 to see if Eliza and James Baskeyfield with a child Frederick aged about 3 were listed, also possibly the 1871. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2. Hi Norma. I notice you are researching Whetton. May be no connection but here is my Wetton family in case you find a connection. Regards Earl. First Generation ---------------------------------------- 1. Elizabeth Wetton. Possible daughter of John and Elizabeth Wetton of Checkley. Child: 2 i. Thomas (1745-1809) Second Generation ---------------------------------------- Family of Elizabeth Wetton (1) 2. Thomas Wetton. Born in 1745. Christened on 10 Nov 1745 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. Thomas died in of Hollington, Staffordshire, England in 1809, he was 64. Buried on 2 Mar 1809 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. When Thomas is buried it was recorded that he was aged 65 and a widower of Hollington. On 29 Aug 1771 when Thomas was 26, he married Felisha Hollysmith, in St. Mary's Parish Church, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England. Born in 1746. Buried on 6 Dec 1807 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. Married as Follicia They had the following children: 3 i. Sampson (1771-) 4 ii. Isaac (1777-) 5 iii. Dorothy (1779-) 6 iv. William (1783-) 7 v. Maria (1785-) 8 vi. Elizabeth (1788-) 9 vii. Elizabeth (1789-) 10 viii. Lydia (1792-) 11 ix. Thomas (1774-1800) Third Generation ---------------------------------------- Family of Thomas Wetton (2) & Felisha Hollysmith 3. Sampson Wetton. Born in 1771. Christened on 15 Sep 1771 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 4. Isaac Wetton. Born in 1777. Christened on 5 Jan 1777 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 5. Dorothy Wetton. Born in 1779. Christened on 29 Aug 1779 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. A search of the Staffordshire burial index to 1837 reveals two Dorothy Beardmore burials neither of which can be ours. I assume Dorothy must have survived past 1837. Of interest, a Sarah Beardmore married Joseph Wetton in 1779 at Checkley. On 4 Aug 1800 when Dorothy was 21, she married George Beardmore, in All Saints Parish Church, Dilhorne, Staffordshire, England. Born abt 1772. George died in Cheadle Mill Road, Cheadle, Staffordshire, England in 1833, he was 61. Buried on 21 Oct 1833 in St. Giles Parish Church, Cheadle, Staffordshire, England. Occupation: Collier. George's marriage is witnessed by John Cashmore. The IGI says he is of Kingsley and suggests a birth around 1772. A George was bap at Kingsley in 1778 contempory with Dorothy's baptism. See also Sarah, bap 22 Aug 1746 = Joseph WETTON, 12 May 1777 See also 30 George BEARDMORE, of Croxden = Lydia WETTON, 29 Dec 1834, by License George is recorded as being deceased on his daughters 1838 marriage certificate. George Beardmore was buried 21 Oct 1833 "of Cheadle Mill Road" aged 62. This would match the birth year suggested by the IGI. They had the following children: 12 i. Lydia (1804-) 13 ii. William (1806-) 14 iii. Solomon (1810-) 15 iv. Thomas (1814-) 16 v. Elizabeth (1817-) 17 vi. Isaac (1820-) 6. William Wetton. Born in 1783. Christened on 9 Feb 1783 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 7. Maria Wetton. Born in 1785. Christened on 6 Nov 1785 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 8. Elizabeth Wetton. Born in 1788. Christened on 15 Jun 1788 in Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 9. Elizabeth Wetton. Born in 1789. Christened on 29 Nov 1789 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 10. Lydia Wetton. Born in 1792. Christened on 3 Feb 1792 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. 11. Thomas Wetton. Born in 1774. Christened on 6 Mar 1774 in St. Michael's Parish Church, Rocester, Staffordshire, England. Thomas died in 1800, he was 26. Buried on 25 Jun 1800 in St. Mary and All Saint's Parish Church, Checkley, Staffordshire, England. Fourth Generation ---------------------------------------- Family of Dorothy Wetton (5) & George Beardmore 12. Lydia Beardmore. Born in 1804. Christened on 22 Jan 1804 in St. Werburgh's Parish Church, Kingsley, Staffordshire, England. Named after her mothers sister? 13. William Beardmore. Born in 1806 in Kingsley, Staffordshire, England. Christened on 23 Nov 1806 in St. Werburgh's Parish Church, Kingsley, Staffordshire, England. Occupation: Collier (1851). On 20 Feb 1830 when William was 24, he married Emma Hall, in St. Giles Parish Church, Cheadle, Staffordshire, England. Born in 1811 in Kings Bromley, Staffordshire, England. Occupation: Dressmakeer (1871). They had the following children: i. James (1831-) ii. Mary Ann (1833-) iii. William (1836-) iv. George (1839-) v. Elizabeth (1845-) vi. Eliza (1848-) vii. Dorothy (1850-) 16. Elizabeth Beardmore. Born in 1817 in Cheadle, Staffordshire, England. Christened on 20 Apr 1817 in St Giles Parish Church, Cheadle, Staffordshire, England. Religion: Also known as Bessy. On 26 Feb 1838 when Elizabeth was 21, she married Joseph Johnson, son of Job Johnson & Mary Gouldstraw (1778-), in The Licensed Chapel, Cheadle, Staffordshire, England. Born in 1812 in Foxt Staffordshire, England. Occupation: Coal Miner (1851). Joseph married Elizabeth Beardmore in the Licensed Chapel at Cheadle in 1838. The service was witnessed by his brother Philip and by Ellen Malbon. The marriage certificate confirms he is the son of Job. Joseph was a witness at the marriage of his brother Job in 1844. They had the following children: i. Job (1838-) ii. Simon (1841-) iii. Elizabeth (1844-1895) iv. Mary Ann (1849-) v. Luke? (1855-) 17. Isaac Beardmore. Born in 1820. 2. I am trying to find out more about a lady who was engaged to be married to my uncle Dick (Richard Francis Billington, a piano tuner and music teacher) for many years. I think her surname was Osbo(u)rne, - I knew her as "Auntie Molly". She lived somewhere in the Victoria Street area of Basford and was a teacher, possibly a headmistress in Newcastle ? Hassall street. They never did get married, my uncle did not want to leave my aged grandmother and unfortunately Molly died suddenly around 1942
