Thought you people would be interested in the amount and type of records available. Helen *A2A Update, November 2002* The A2A database at www.a2a.pro.gov.uk was last updated early in November. It now contains over 4 million catalogue entries from archives repositories across England. Among this month's new finding aids were catalogues of the extensive photographic archives of English Heritage's National Monuments Record, and catalogues of the archival holdings of Hastings Museum. Finding aids to a range of archives held by Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Record Service, and to hospital archives and other public records held by seven local authority record offices and Oxfordshire Health Archives, have also been added to A2A. The A2A Central Team is pleased to announce that at the time of writing the Heritage Lottery Fund have made 2 more grants to A2A projects - Campaigning London and Made in Suffolk. Campaigning London is a London regional A2A project. Led by the Greater London Archives Network and delivered by London Metropolitan Archives, the project will retroconvert 15,000 catalogue pages relating to the archives of many London-based charities, pressure groups and community organisations from 1620 to modern times, held in London Metropolitan Archives and the following repositories: the borough archive services of Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Hackney, Haringey, Lewisham, Sutton and Westminster; the archives of King's College and of Save the Children; and the Women's Library. Made in Suffolk will be delivered by Suffolk Record Office in partnership with the Ipswich Transport Museum and the Long Shop Steam Museum. It will provide access via A2A to 130 business archives held in Suffolk Record Office: 104 catalogues will be retroconverted and 16 archives will be newly catalogued. Related archives held in the two museums will also be catalogued as part of the project. A2A's database usage statistics reveal that over 1 million searches have now been made on the database since May last year; these searches have resulted in well over 2 million viewings of individual catalogues. In the last few months usage of A2A has reached peaks of 7000 catalogue viewings per day. A2A is the English strand in the UK archives network: its database at www.a2a.pro.gov.uk already contains the electronic equivalent of over 400,000 catalogue pages describing archives held across England in national, local and specialist repositories and dating from the 900s to the present day. The A2A programme will make a further 300,000 catalogue pages available on the web by March 2004. * * * * * * Sarah J A Stark Regional Liaison Co-Ordinator, A2A Public Record Office Kew Richmond Surrey TW9 4DU Tel (direct line): 020 8392 5328 Fax: 020 8392 5319 Email: [email protected] www: http://www.a2a.pro.gov.uk * * * * * * ==== LISTOWNERS-ENGWLS Mailing List ==== .

It is a website devoted to promoting Americas First Families that is to say the first immigrants into the new country. Pedigrees and background information relating to each of the entrants is on the site, and it is really easy to find the information you need. There is also an extensive amount of information on previously published forged pedigrees pertaining to come from first families. This in itself is a fascinating section of the website and worthy of a read! I was not happy with the design which I found a bit messy and occasionally hard to read, but otherwise a great site http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/ These are the websites of the London, Belfast and Edinburgh Gazettes. These are the newspapers of record and contain much information about medals, insolvency and many many other records. The websites contain quite a bit of modern information, but they beauty of them is that they also contain an archive from World Wars One and Two. These are periods when the Gazette came into its own recording the medals and honours of soldiers. Not only is this archive online and free, but you can search it too. The search mechanism is quick and easy, results are returned quickly even for common names. Then you can view Adobe Acrobat versions of the original paper so you can actually see the record itself. A well designed and super to use website which brings another new category of record online for us to use http://www.origins.net/ScotsLife/ Scots Life is part of the Scots Origins website. As far as I could tell this was a free part of the website and well worth a visit! It gives social background to Scottish history and will help you understand the ways and cultures of your Scottish ancestors if you do not already know! There were articles about Hogmany, Religion, Golf, Fishing, Emigration and much more. The other bonus is that many of the articles seem to come from journals and first hand accounts, making them considerably more interesting than just an historical account CERTIFICATES BIRTH LITTLEWOOD, William, son of Alfred & Mary Ann, nee Morris August 4 1873. Many will recall from their School Day History Lessons that World War I, Armistice, was signed on the 11th Hour of the 11th Month, 1911. The 11th November has since , in many countries, been allocated as the day on which those who gave their lives in the service of their country are collectively remembered. Church services will be held throughout Britain on Sunday 10th November, and poppies will fall and the Last Post will sound at 11 a.m. It has been suggested that it would be fitting for Listers to post the names - along with the date and place of birth, and date and place of death (if known) - of their STAFFORDSHIRE , born relatives who died on active service. ( includes all 20th century wars and Boer War) The mail may be sent to List between 7th and 11th of November - I plan to save the list of names and arrange for them to be published on an appropriate web site, possibly Genuki STS Page , if Mike is agreeable. Lest we forget. For those who are curious - and wonder if Australia and New Zealand keep the above, as well as Anzac Day, yes we do, like Britain the occasion is held on the nearest Sunday to the 11th but without the Poppies!! Those are an Anzac commemoration. In Wellington NZ two services are held one in the morning at the Cathedral and the second in the afternoon in the " Hall of Remembrance " where those who have fallen, in service, in the last 12 mths are remembered, in particular. We have troops in UN Peacekeeping Roles, in many countries and sadly two have died in East Timor this year!! Helen
George Fahnline writes: Seeking the parents and siblings of George D. Bagnall. They moved to Mercer County, PA about 1829. Dr. George D. Bagnall was born 13 February 1823 in England, and died 1897. He married Fannie Bland, daughter of WILLIAM ULAND and ELIZABETH STORR. She died 1887. Children of GEORGE BAGNALL and FANNIE BLAND are: 2. i. MARY BAGNALL, b. 1852 m. George Smith. ii. ELIZABETH BAGNALL, m. WILLIAM T. JACOBS. iii. EMMA BAGNALL, m. REV. JOHN C. BREBRIDGE. iv. SIDONIA BAGNALL, m. W. O. ANDERSON. Dear George and list, I am interested in Bagnall's. I have in a collateral line of my Jaquiss family a Sarah Ann Bagnall married to a Richard Henry Lymer. I know living descendants of this family. Richard Henry Lymer, the son of John & Elizabeth Lymer nee Jaquiss, was born 13 April 1844 in Millbrook, Mercer Co, PA. John & Elizabeth Lymer came to the USA right after their wedding 10 Apr 1843 in Longton, Staffordshire, England. I should be interested in whether or not you have this Sarah Ann Bagnall in your family? I believe that the Bagnall's came from the potteries area, probably Longton, of Staffordshire, England as did the Lymer's & Jaquiss'. Please let me know if we may be of some assistance to each other in researching. If some kind soul (SKS) has any information about any of these families or where to research them please contact me on or off list. Deborah in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, USA

Hi Pam Thank you for the suggestion. I actually have a photocopy of the original document, so going back to Southport or Hanley isn't an option! However you have given me the idea of scanning it in and enlarging it when hopefully I'll be able to confirm Graham's idea. I may have tried this before. When did the angel appear? My family lore says my ggmother Emma Sanders (1851 - 1898 ) was the model for the angel on the town hall in Burslem. We've established with help, that the town hall was built in 1854 and there was no angel on the architect's plans. Could someone who has a Kelly's Directory circa 1870 - 1880 check the Burslem pages to see if there is any reference to the 'new' angel. Surely it would get mentioned. I have 1900 Kellys on CD and eventually I'll collect more. Emma married William Lovatt in 1871 and lived first on Wharf Street and later on St John's Square, in Arnold Bennetts Baines house. He was a tailor, who was a Councillor and later mayor and we thought at first it tied in with that but the dates don't work. Also Emma's sister Ann married Fred Stanistreet a painter, so there may be a link with that name. It's all very interesting. Anne [email protected] http://www3.sympatico.ca/anne.toft/
To Michelle if you have a marriage cerft.and the Vol# etc.write to the St Catherines house they won't charge you unless you have the original copy if you send me the district and the vol number etc. I will get back to you We had a marriage ceft. that we couldn't make out the last name of the Groom so I wrote to a person and she gave me his last name Graham Pointon wrote: > Michelle - > Could "Pinddler"/"Prisldker" be 'Puddler'? > Graham > > -----Original Message----- > From: Michelle McKnight [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: 05 October 2002 23:23 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: 1901 Census Help > > Hi Lisa and Pamela > > Oops I made a BIG typo and I feel very silly.
