    3. Hi Mike, Yes, Raglan Street is in Fenton. The street is still there, but no houses left, unfortunately, it has all been redeveloped. My family used to live in Raglan Street. I am sure that this was the only Raglan Street in Stoke on Trent. Regards, Jean. -------Original Message------- From: Michael Wheeler Date: 02/08/05 21:07:19 To: ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Pots] Raglan Street Hi All I have a street in the 1881 census called Raglan St. Stoke on Trent. 3. To help with the geography of our various areas, NASA have a site with a free download of a program that links into Landsat 7 to give us some idea of what exactly is where. It's much easier than looking at a street map (although one will have to have some idea of the place that you're looking for, to help with this small drawback, I suggest that you use the Ordnance Survey site to get a Lat / Long. The search function only really works for the USA). That said, I found my house without any problems, just followed the M6 for a bit. Once a location is found and at the resolution that you want, you can save the image for later use (jpg etc). Best advice is that it is a great tool, but you will need a highish spec system, lots of ram, at least 2 gig free hard disk space and a broadband/always on connection as you'll be linked in to the NASA system for the images while you're using it. I suppose you could use dial-up but it would take ages to view anything worthwhile. The whole world is covered, with the US at a 1 metre resolution in parts (you can see individual cars stuck in a jam on Brooklyn bridge!). The UK is best looked at from 10 thousand metres as it gets a bit fuzzy at lower levels. FYI 7 is zoom in and 1 is zoom out, pull the globe around with your mouse and remember to wait for your images to load from the server when you zoom in. The download of the program itself is 173MB but is from a very fast server (it's free source). The URL for the download is:- http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ And to check Lat and Long (UK only) is www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk Those of you in the States and Oz may already have heard about this, haven't seen much mention over here as yet. A great and useful resource. Dave 8-) Wednesbury England

    3. Directory of West Midlands newspapers online Details of all known newspaper titles in the West Midlands region (including Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire) are now available online at www.newsplan.co.uk, together with existing information on titles published in London and the South-East. Covering some 1100 West Midlands titles dating back to the 17th century, it is possible to search by title, place and date of publication and find out where copies of titles are held. The digitisation of this information, previously available only as a printed directory, has been made possible as a result of funding from the British Library and the Laser Foundation. 1. FW: [STS] CHARLES SUTTERBY and ANNE HUMPHREYS
    2. Lockzie2004
    3. Hello I am looking for information on the family of an ANNE HUMPHREYS born 1816 in West Hatch, Somerset. Her father was called Thomas and mother was Elizabeth. I would like to know about any of her family. By 1853 ANNE HUMPHREYS had married CHARLES SUTTERBY (publican) and they lived in Eastgate Street Staffordshire, and had a son called CHARLES SUTTERBY born 1853. I have got the information from CHARLES SUTTERBY'S (1853) birth certificate. ANNE HUMPHREYS and CHARLES SUTTERBY went on to have another 2 children, HENRY SUTTERBY 1857 born Middlesex and EMILY SUTTERBY 1858 again born Middlesex. It would be great if anyone had any info on a GRO for the marriage ANNE HUMPHREYS to CHARLES SUTTERBY, or information on the birth for CHARLES SUTTERBY (father of Charles 1853) I don't know anything about CHARLES SUTTERBY. My grandmother said the SUTTERBY'S originated from Lincolnshire but I haven't found anything. Many thanks for any information Kind Regards Amanda ==== STAFFORDSHIRE Mailing List ==== The List for the Ancient County of Staffordshire

    3. Hello Linda. I have not yet found connection with Ada WITHINSHAW but I will keep her on my list. Her birth is indexed on ancestry.co.uk BMD for December 1871 but there is no marriage entry on their list. I see that Cameron has found it on freebmd. It pays to look everywhere. Thank you for contacting me. I am always interested in any item on Withinshaw. I have never found anyone who is researching that name. Perhaps ther are too few of us. My direct line hangs by a thread. My generation (1925) was only me and a female cousin. I have two sons but only one grandchild with the Withinshaw name Regards Redg ---- Original Message ---- From: "Linda en Henk" <yrrem1@quicknet.nl> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2005 11:57 PM Subject: Re: [Pots] new lister and interests > Thanks for the info.happy hunting. > Linda Westmaas > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "ccs" <ccs27@btinternet.com> > To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2005 1:24 PM > Subject: Re: [Pots] new lister and interests > > >> Hello Linda >> >> No connection but I found the marriage here....... >> >> http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl >> >> Emily Ada Withinshaw married William Davis >> >> September 1/4 1895 Cheadle 6B 495 >> >> HTH >> Cameron >> >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Linda en Henk" <yrrem1@quicknet.nl> >> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2005 12:13 PM >> Subject: Re: [Pots] new lister and interests >> >> >>> Hallo Mr. Withinshaw?, >>> I have recently found out that when my ancestor Ann Merry died her >>> husband >>> William Davis remarried a lady called Emily Ada Withinshaw, approximately >> in >>> 1893.They lived in Longton,Staffs.Around 1906/07 they had a fruit and >>> veg.business in Stafford. >>> Any connection? >>> Regards >>> Linda Westmaas(Holland) >>> ----- Original Message ----- >>> From: "withinshaw" <redgwit@chariot.net.au> >>> To: <ENG-STS-THE-POTTERIES-L@rootsweb.com> >>> Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2005 3:14 AM >>> Subject: [Pots] new lister and interests >>> >>> >>> > BMD lists a number of WITHINSHAW in Wolstanton including my GGrFather >>> > Edward >>> > and hie family. He married a Sarah SHEEN from across the border in >>> > Cheshire. >>> > Has anyone found an odd Withinshaw in their tree. 1. Re: [Pots] SEARCHING FOR BLOOR OR JACKSON FAMILY
    2. hilary jackson
    3. Hi Linda Thanks for your email. Yes its me researching the Bloor family - I havn't got much information at all - as this is my husband's family history and I've only just started researching that side of the family. The following is the only information I have - On 23 September 1850, at Hanley Chapel, John JACKSON married Ann BLOOR. John was a Brickmaker and was living at Well Street at the time of marriage and his father was Hamlet JACKSON, a Brick maker. Ann BLOOR was living at Bucknall New Road and her father was Hamlet BLOOR, a Potter. They were both of "full age". Witnesses were John and Mary Bath. Their son John Jackson was born on 23 August 1860 when they were living at 99 Hotlane, Burslem. John Jackson (junior) is the Grandfather of my husband, Barry Jackson. I only have the above wedding certificate and the birth certificate of John Jackson jnr. I did find a few possibilities on the IGI I have been unable to find them on anything else. I've trawled through sections of the 1861 Census for Burslem - Doncaster FHS have the CDs but not the index - its an appalling copy too! That's why I put out the request to see if any one had the index or the 1851. The lady who suggested the Bloor Society also has Bloors in her research. I have had a brief look at the Bloor Society website, but not had much chance yet to follow that up. But I do intend to send off for information. My web page for the Jackson family has the details: http://www.hilarymaryjackson.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Jackson.htm I will save your information and get in touch if I discover anything further, its close enough to wonder if there may be a connection. 1. St. Lukes, Dresden

    3. Hi Listers, Further to my query earlier this week as to the whereabouts of St. Luke's Church, Dresden, I visited the Archives today and found my Grandmothers christening, plus a whole load of her family. They must have all been "done" together as a job lot!! (lol). When I went to the local chip shop in Dresden, the owner in there told me exactly where St. Luke's had been situated, half way down Cromartie street, just as Diana mentioned. Thanks again Diana. The owner also said that worship was going on there until the mid '60's she thought, and what interested me most was that the Cross from St. Luke's was now inside The Church of the Resurrection, also in Dresden. I thought I would like to let folks know that a query on here, often leads to a result, as in this case. I had been searching for my Grandmothers christening for three years prior to this recent information gleaned from the kind listers. Keep trying! Regards, Jean.

    3. My first guess would be that the first child died and the name was reused. But it is a guess. Is there a suitable death? My second guess is that there are 2 families.
