    3. Hi List Great to have some messages coming in, and if I can be of any help I'll do my best. What every subscriber should know is that the main sources for Southampton family research are accessible by email, and are usually very helpful. And what's more, their services are free - that's what they are paid for by the Council. <mailto:local.studies@southampton.gov.uk>local.studies@southampton.gov.uk This is a specialised part of Southampton Libraries. They can look people up in the indexes for 1851, 1861 (not yet complete) 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses. Also people in local Directories, and Voters Lists from 1932 Plus information about ships and all matters maritime. archives<mailto:local.studies@southampton.gov.uk>@southampton.gov.uk This department has all the original archives from Southampton civil and ecclesiastical sources. They also have a card index containing summaries of baptisms, marraiges and burials in Southampton churches from 1837 to about 1900, which they will look into for you. <mailto:r.hancock@southampton.gov.uk>r.hancock@southampton.gov.uk This contact is for Southampton Bereavement Services, who have details on computer of all burials and cremations in Southampton's municipal cemeteries. I strongly advise use of these contacts, if you can make your queries clear and precise. It would be great if anyone who has used these and got good results could tell the List about it, as this will encourage others to follow suit. If you have had negative results, perhaps you could tell me first, and maybe I can help sort out the reason. Good hunting all, Cheers, Dave Jacobs
