Hi Dave With reference to your request for comments on using the local studies section at the library...they're brilliant! I contacted them some time ago asking them for a look up on the 1851 census...I had the reference's. Not only did they give me the details...ie my Thomas Midlane of the IOW was in the gaol in Winkle street...but curiosty got the better of them & they found & relayed the court case as published in the Hampshire advertiser. Very helpful indeed!! Oh, incase you're wondering, Thomas was a smuggler..spirits & tobacco...in great quantity!! Best wishes, Debbie >-- Original Message -- >Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2005 11:29:30 +0000 >From: Dave Jacobs <Dave@Jacobs.net> >To: ENG-SOUTHAMPTON-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [ENG-SOU] Southampton research > > >Hi List > >Great to have some messages coming in, and if I can be of any help I'll do > >my best. > >What every subscriber should know is that the main sources for Southampton > >family research are accessible by email, and are usually very helpful. Well done Debbie - if this doesn't encourage others to use the helpful people and original sources that are available free, I don't know what will!
