    3. My families being researched in Southampton are BUCKELL/LE WILTSHIRE/SHEAR OR WILSHER ROBERTS-Eling from about 1860 onwards SAVORY- Moved up from Dorset about 1880's TUDGEY OTHEN WITT GRANT MOODY WHITLOCK SHOLING some of these moved to Southampton area from New Forest some lived in the area which was South Stoneham West End, Bitterne & Botley. My biggest obstacle is tracing my g g grandfather Stephen Richards BUCKELL on the census before 1871, he may have been a seaman prior to his marriage in 1858. He married a girl from Bristol and his father was a mariner/seaman according to his christening record in 1827. His parents were not married though both are named at his christening does anyone know whether Southampton have any bastardy papers for this time. His mother was living in Blue Anchor Lane when he was christened. TIA Hilary

    3. Hi Hilary Southampton Archives have indexes of Bastardy papers and Removal orders, so I should send your question to them in an email, and it would be nice if you were to let us know the result. Cheers, Dave Jacobs ================ At 13:40 06/01/2005, hilary gadsby wrote: >My families being researched in Southampton are >BUCKELL/LE >WILTSHIRE/SHEAR OR WILSHER >ROBERTS-Eling from about 1860 onwards >SAVORY- Moved up from Dorset about 1880's >TUDGEY >OTHEN >WITT >GRANT >MOODY >WHITLOCK >SHOLING >some of these moved to Southampton area from New Forest some lived in the >area which was South Stoneham West End, Bitterne & Botley. >My biggest obstacle is tracing my g g grandfather Stephen Richards BUCKELL >on the census before 1871, he may have been a seaman prior to his marriage >in 1858.
