Thanks to everyone who provided the information on St. Decumans. William Stone and Mary Crodon were married in Lydeard St. Lawrence in 1809. They had four children baptized in St. Decumans: William, Piety, Charity and Elizabeth. Piety was baptized twice - first in Stogumber in 1812, the second time in St. Decuman's in 1813. On census returns you may find St Decuman as a place of birth, especially if the person was born outside the actual towns of Watchet or Williton. Lydeard St Lawrence is no more than 5 miles outside the parish of St Decumans according to the 1801 map I have. Paul Challice [Researching CHIDGEY in the area] Does anyone know where St. Dickman is located? I found it mentioned as a birthplace in the 1851 census, and the transcription could be wrong.? I think it's in the Lyeard St. Lawrence area.? ------------------------------ To contact the ENG-SOMERSET list administrator, send an email to ENG-SOMERSET-admin@rootsweb.com.
