    3. Hi Sue, There are a few MEACHAMs in my family tree. A 3g grandmother of mine was Sarah Meacham (1801-1860) who was baptised, married and buried at Combe St Nicholas. Her parents, I'm fairly sure, were also Combe St Nicholas folks; her father was William Meacham (1765-1831). I have a tentative link to his father, John (1737-1784) and his father, Joel bc.1714 at Whitestaunton and married 14 Dec 1735 at Whitestaunton. Unsurprisingly I have other ancestors from Whitestaunton and I've visited the church there on a number of occasions. It is noticeable that most of the gravestones at Whitestaunton have lost their inscriptions to erosion, but there is one notable MI on the floor of the church, of one William Meacham: "Here Lyeth the Body of William Meacham who Departed this Life July the 4th and was Buried July the 8th Anno Dom 1724 Aged 33". I can send image off-list if relevant to your studies. Thanks to the timely downloading of the Whitestaunton PRs to Free Reg (my endless gratitude to their transcriber) and thanks to the help and collaboration of my dear friend, Midi, I have managed to establish my MEACHAM tree as follows: Amory MEACHAM (b.? - d. 1729) marr. Elizabeth (OWSLEY?), date/location of marriage unknown | Henry MEACHAM (b. 1695, Whitestaunton - d. ?) married Mary BASDON, 1718, Whitestaunton. | Amory MEACHAM (b. 1718, Whitestaunton - d. 1786, Whitestaunton) married Susannah STACY als PAVY, 1744, Whitestaunton. | George MEACHAM (b. 1745, Whitestaunton - d. 1803, Whitestaunton) married (2nd wife) Sebbera STRAWBRIDGE, 1793, Whitestaunton. | Samuel MEACHAM (b. 1796, Whitestaunton - d. 1860, Corfe, Somerset) married Grace RIDGE, 1821, Pitminster, Somerset. | John MEACHAM/MITCHAM (b. 1829, Corfe, Somerset - d. 1915, Blagdon, Corfe, Somerset) married Anna JENNINGS, 1855, Corfe, Somerset. | Lucy MEACHAM (b. 1864, Corfe, Somerset - d. 1955, Taunton, Somerset) married Edward HEMBURY, 1899, Corfe, Somerset. If anyone can add anything to the above, or would like more info, do please get back to me. At the moment, I am trying to establish whether the George MEACHAM bap 09 Jun 1811, Whitestaunton, son of John MEACHAM and Jane nee MORREN, was the same George in various censuses who gave his place of birth as Ilminster (once) and Combe St Nicholas (four times). I found what I think were his parents, George and Jane, in 1841 at Combe St Nicholas, and as the village is so very close to Whitestaunton, I feel relatively sure that this is the right family. Many thanks, Sue Hembury-Kellow ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-SOMERSET-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Jenny, We really must have a link somewhere, mustn't we? If only I could get back beyond Amory MEACHAM, who may have been the son of Thomas & Marie MEACHAM, bap 25 Feb 1639, Crewkerne, or perhaps the son of Roger & Edith MEACHAM, bap Feb 1645, Crewkerne - or indeed, he may have been another Amery altogether! He was having children up to 1702, and died in 1729 at Whitestaunton, so he would be more likely to be the son of Roger and Edith, perhaps... I don't know whether you have Joel's baptism details (I'm sure you have) but just in case, they are: Joel MEACHAM, bap 11 Feb 1714, Whitestaunton, son of Roger & Catherine. Unfortunately, although I live in Taunton, not far from Whitestaunton, I'm now stuck at home due to ill-health, so your kind offer of an image of William MEACHAM's MI is very welcome. Thank you. William must have been from a family of some influence to merit such a memorial. From what I've found so far (the word "Poor" in parish records, Removal from one parish to another, and things like being "Buried at Parish expense") it would seem my own MEACHAMs had lost whatever money and influence they may once have had - certainly by the mid 1700's. It would be nice to think they weren't always that way. Anyway, thanks again for your kind help. Maybe one day we'll be able to prove a connection between our elusive MEACHAMs! Best wishes, Sue Hembury-Kellow -----Original Message----- From: eng-somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jenny Davis Sent: 20 November 2013 15:38 To: eng-somerset@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] MEACHAM family of Whitestaunton, Somerset Hi Sue, There are a few MEACHAMs in my family tree.
