Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. My family has known about our Somerset connections as that information has been passed down through the generations. My Diggins family arrived free on the "Victoria" in 1849 as assisted immigrants - Frederick Levi Diggins (age 20) and his wife Sarah nee Sawtell (aged 27). Sarah was the daughter of Joshua Sawtell and Mary Laver, and Frederick was the son of John Diggins and Lucy Lancaster. I am trying to link up with relatives of those families who may have stayed in Somerset, or moved elsewhere (other than Australia), and trying to find out more information about their ancestors. Kind regards, Warren -----Original Message----- From: Peter R Booth via <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> To: eng-somerset <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, 26 Jul 2014 15:57 Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] [ENG-SOMERSET] New Lister Surnames: DIGGINS LAVERLANCASTER SAWTELL Warren, You say that you're new to this list, which makes it sound like you've ust discovered your Somerset Roots. Is this correct?
Hi , you probably have the 1841 census for Huish Episcopi which shows an Elizabeth Caswell, 70, tailoress, Y, Lucy Diggins, 50, labourer, Y, Levi Diggins, 12, shoemaker`s appr , Y. Freereg has the baptism of Joseph Diggins, son of John and Lucy , labourer, at Langport All Saints, in 1817 , and he appears in the 1841 census at Ashcott. There is a Joseph George son of John and Mary Diggins, labourer, bapt Langport, 1820, then Latitia bapt 1823 also Langport, dau of John and Lucy, labourer. and Tryphena bapt 1826 dau of John and Lucy, also Langport. I am guessing the John and Mary is possibly a mistranscription of Lucy.. And John and Lucy were married in 1810 in Langport. There is a burial of a Joseph Diggins aged 2 at HE in 1820 and a burial for "Lalsha" aged 5 also HE in 1828. That is from one source and you already have familysearch.org . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Warren Diggins via" <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> To: <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au>; <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 26, 2014 7:50 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] [ENG-SOMERSET] New Lister Surnames: DIGGINS LAVER LANCASTER SAWTELL > > > Hi Peter, > > Thanks for your reply.
