    3. G'day List I am back on my Louisa (Burnell) Click quest. I thought I had finished with her as I couldn't find out any more of her adventures in Bridgwater. How wrong can you be? I had finished her story as far as I could tell and had written it out in my fair computer printout ready for inclusion in the Western Ancestor, the West Australian Genealogical Society journal. Just before Christmas 2013 I received an email from another descendant of her husband (the one and only legal one) William's family. It was a revelation! It seems that her census entries for the 1871, 1881, 1891 censuses were slightly off- centre. She is described as Charwoman or Washerwoman. In actuality it was more likely that she was a 'lady of ill repute'. In the Taunton Gazette and the Somerset Courier in 1867 and 1868 respectively she is described as a 'brothel keeper' and the keeper of a "bad house". Nonetheless, I want to find out more, after all she was my great-great-grandmother. Is there any archive of police incident reports for the Bath Road area of Bridgwater? Also is there any 'warts and all' history of Bridgwater which documents what the area around Bath Road for the period 1861 - 1880 was like. Louisa is in Bedminster on the 1881 Census where she remained for the rest of her life. Did Bridgwater get too 'hot' for her? I'd like to know so that I can fill in some more details of her life and times and the surroundings in which she lived. From all accounts the area of Bedminster in which became domiciled wasn't too good either but I'll think about that later. Hope that someone can help. The members of list always have in the past. Regards Ray Lewis Hazelmere Western Australia on a warm summer night I

    3. Hi , I seem to have lost the thread of this. Are we looking for a Louisa Burnell ? in the 1871,81 and 91 census and if so where ? do you have any idea when she was born ? Have you tried Britishnewspapersonline ? its surprising what surprises you can unearth in the papers !!!! You might try the Somerset Heritage Centre or whatever it calls itself now , to see if they have Police records for that early period in Bridgwater. if they exist they will be there. life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Lewis family" <lewisfamily@iinet.net.au> To: <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2014 1:06 PM Subject: [ENG-SOM] Help and advice wanted - Louisa (Burnell) > G'day List > > I am back on my Louisa (Burnell) Click quest. 3. She was still at it in 1871 in Bridgwater! - Reported in the Western Gazette 21 April 1871 Mary Dare and Sarah Hayward were each fined 10s for creating a public annoyance and Louisa Click (who had twice previously been convicted), was ordered to pay £1, including costs; default, 14 days' imprisonment. Do you think the Charles William B CLICK who was born and died in 1868 might have been the son of the Robert BURT who was lodging with her in 1871 and who was charged with her for committing a public annoyance in Green Dragon Lane in 1867?
