Hi, the History of Parliament shows that Sir Robert Crosse made in 1611 a "nuncupative will at Moulsham, nr Chelmsford, bequeathing his possessions to Gregory Fennor who was to pay his debts and see him `christianly` buried. He died three weeks later on 18 Oct perhaps at Marten Abbey , Essex , where his last letters were written." So whilst he is said to be born in Charlinch he seems to have died in Essex . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Travis Cross" <justcro@gmail.com> To: <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 13, 2014 6:52 PM Subject: [ENG-SOM] Sir Robert CROSSE >I am a descendent of Sir Robert Crosse, and I would like a picture of his > tombstone or burial place. That seems to be borne out by his being buried at Molsham Hall which is apparently in Chelmsford, Essex. Given Sir Robert's connections to London, I think that is the more likely place. There are several references on Google to Sir Robert being buried at "Molsham Hall, St. Mary's Church, Charlinch" but they seem to come from uploaded from private research and to be copied from one another. The burial place appears to be an amalgamation of two places: "Molsham Hall" and "St. Mary's Church, Charlinch". The Hall wouldn't be in the church or its grounds although there might be or have been a church dedicated to St Mary in the grounds of the Hall or chapel in the Hall itself. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
Hi, added to which the website achurchnearyou.org seems to indicate that the church at Charlinch is now deconsecrated and the parish is absorbed into Spaxton . There isn`t a lot on Charlinch on genuki or elsewhere but I think Moulsham is the most likely in Essex. life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charani" <charani.b@gmail.com> To: <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 12:14 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] Sir Robert CROSSE > On 14/01/2014 10:44, elizabeth howard wrote: >> Hi, the History of Parliament shows that Sir Robert Crosse >> made in 1611 a "nuncupative will at Moulsham, nr Chelmsford, bequeathing >> his >> possessions to Gregory Fennor who was to pay his debts and see him >> `christianly` buried.
