Thank you Brad for the suggestion about using the "A-Z of Records" link. That opened up the search options I had been missing. I had gone from "Search records" to "Census, land & surveys" and had a much more limited set of search options available to me. I still have some trouble with the automatic filling of data, and with printing what is there (I need to print at 30% to get the full page), but I can live with these minor annoyances when the search options are reasonable.
