Hi Margaret Parents names not on death certificates. Probably because, at the time civil registration was introduced, for deaths of adults, the names of the parents would not necessarily be known by those reporting the death given the massive amount of migration round the country that was going on. And the people introducing civil registration gave no thought to we family history researchers trying to work out which of 3 William Smith aged 4 registrations, in the same quarter in the same, registration district were ours. On marriage, it is a follow on from the church traditions of recording the father.
