Thanks Steve, Im thankful for how much we can find out, when we are so far away, And the folk at Genes Re-united are brilliant with helping to give you ideas of where to look, And thanks to some of these records being free, as it means so much more to us out here. Migration is going to be a huge problem in the next 20 years plus. All the boat people come illigally, no trace for them to do their trees in 50 years time. And do Air lines keep records or release flying lists? I mean ive never heard of it, So im grateful my ancestors can be traced.... to a point. Thanks to those that have kept records. :) Ive checked at lot of the Somerset records for Yard, and a few for Dimant. Thank you for your transcribing, it is appreciated, Would love to visit, but not realistic. Probably because, at the time civil registration was introduced, for deaths of adults, the names of the parents would not necessarily be known by those reporting the death given the massive amount of migration round the country that was going on. And the people introducing civil registration gave no thought to we family history researchers trying to work out which of 3 William Smith aged 4 registrations, in the same quarter in the same, registration district were ours. On marriage, it is a follow on from the church traditions of recording the father. Hi Margaret, Distance can be a problem with researching records. Are you aware of the http://www.freereg.org.uk/ website? It is a growing resource of transcriptions of church registers and it has enabled me to break through a few brick walls where civil registration did not, but do check if "your" parishes have been transcribed before doing a search.
