Hi List, I am helping a sister in law and have a MARY JANE TAMES married to EDWIN HAWKINS in June Quarter 1881 Taunton District. Later census give place of birth for Mary Jane as Taunton born abt 1853. There is a MARY JANE JAMES in the birth index for Dec Q. 1853, with a marriage of James James and Mary Ann Woolcott in Sept Q. 1852. 1881 census has Mary J.age 27, at 23 Paul St, Taunton with parents James and Mary Ann surname TAMES 1871 census has the family at 14 Paul St , but no Mary J. There is a possible as Mary J. James in St Sidwell Devon age 20. 1861 at Factory Court Mary J. age 8, again looks like Tames. James is a sweep in all census but his age goes from 32 in "61, 36 in "71 to 45 in"' 81, wife goes from30 to 32 to 40. Ancestry has the family indexed various ways including as Turner in 1881. Is anybody researching this family or can tell me if Tames is a Somerset name. Thanks for any help Daphne. New Zealand.
