    1. Re: [ENG-SOM] a murder in East Coker
    2. Hi, You often find several families have lived in these villages for generations. There is a slight possibility that some relatives of those you named in your email still live in the village. East Coker has a Society, which has a website at _www.eastcoker.com/_ (http://www.eastcoker.com/) The burial records for East Coker (1813 – 1885) list several Hain and 1 Haines. _http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/EastCoker/BurEC_Go.html_ (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/EastCoker/BurEC_Go.html) Sarah Taunton, Somerset Hi, I have found a lengthy news paper report of a murder in East Coker. It states that George Haine a weaver murdered his wife Mary on the 24 May 1848, they had three children, no names given only ages, one of twelve, the next one and a half, and the other five months. the neighbours were Sarah Randle, Mrs Saint, a woman named Gillingham lived three doors away, Charles Saint, Mary Randle, Eliza Bartlet, a woman named Creek, Samuel Conden a mason, who lived next door on the left- hand side, Ann Saint lived next door on the right hand side, A surgeon named Mr Hansted was called to the house, Dr Nesbit of Yeovil attended the post mortem, Mr Prideaux addressed the Jury, Mr Justice Coleridge summed up the case, George Haine was transported for life. I have more info if anyone is interested. I have a Mary A Haine ( born c 1854 East Coker) Who Married Robert Lacey c 1873 ?, Would any one know anything about these families, are they related if so I would be delighted to hear. Ann
