    3. Hi everyone, I'm new to this list, though I've been on other Rootsweb lists for some time. I'm in Bedfordshire, so popping over to Somerset isn't very easy. I'm pursuing my ggggrandfather Jeremiah Hayes. I know he and his wife Elizabeth were in Starcross, Devon in the early 1820s, and that his name appears on his son Arthur James Hayes' marriage certificate in 1845 along with his occupation which is given as "Steward", but very little else. The only marriage of a Jeremiah Hayes to an Elizabeth that I have been able to find within a plausible time frame took place in Walcot. On 14 Nov. 1803, Jeremiah Hayes married Elizabeth Broad at Walcot St Swithin's. Sadly, the record gives absolutely nothing else! Does anybody know anything about this couple? I can't find any baptisms under the name of Hayes in the years following this marriage in Walcot. Did they stay in the area? Were they even born in the area? The family clearly moved around quite a bit over the generations, as Arthur James, Jeremiah's son turns up in the 1841 census in the Forest of Dean living with a James Broad who might be his uncle...? However, I cannot find any trace of Jeremiah in any census, even though he would appear to have been still living in 1845 when his son married as he is not given as "deceased" on the marriage cert. Any crumbs of information would be very gratefully received! Regards, Sian.
