    3. The Patient records are at Taunton. I did a recent lookup for someone and it included photographs; some before and after. 3. Hi Pauline, This may not be very helpful, unless you happen to live somewhere close. About five years ago, with an hour or so 'to kill' whilst waiting for transport, I ventured into the public library at Wells to see what I could discover about "The Somerset And Bath Lunatic Asylum", later to be known as "The Mendip Hospital". The librarian was able to take me to the appropriate shelf where I found a delightful little book [about 120 pages roughly A5 size] written by a lady whose father, or perhaps grandfather, worked at the hospital. The author wrote of her childhood memories of the social life at the hospital; events such as the Christmas plays which the hospital staff put-on for the inmates. I have vague recollections of some of the rules which applied to the staff, such as requiring permission from the hospital management before getting married (else lose their job). For someone such as yourself I'm sure it would make fascinating reading. The sad part is, I made no notes at the time and now have no chance of giving you a reference for the book, short of revisiting the library. My quick dip into Google just now didn't provide me any reminders.
