Hello Listers, I am hoping someone on the list please tell me how far it is from Somerford Keynes in Gloucestershire to Bristol? I believe an ancestor of mine may have been born in Somerford Keynes in Gloucestershire. I know he came here on a whaling ship from Bristol. Some years ago I was told it would be too far for him to travel from Somerford Keynes in Gloucestershire to Bristol to board the vessel. He arrived in Sydney Australia in February 1809. I am not entirely sure if the one born in Somerford Keynes is my Ancestor. His name was Daniel Clark and was born on 6th July 1784. Hois parents names were William and Mary Clark (nee Ancock) and they married in a place named Corse on 3rd March 1782. My Ancestor was also nmaed Daniel Clark and all we have to go on is his Death Certificate upon which his grandson was the informant. All that says his is he was born in Bristol and his parents were Robert and Mary Ann Clark and judging by the age given on the Death certificate he would have been born in 1786. This is stabbing in the dark I know but I would like to find his actual DOB and Parents. Best Wishes from Marie in Sydney
Go to Google maps, click on 'get directions', type Somerford Keynes in one box and 'Bristol' in the other...it's certainly possible. He could have walked it easily in two days Anne South Australia heartseas wrote: > Hello Listers, > I am hoping someone on the list please tell me how far it is from Somerford Keynes in Gloucestershire to Bristol? > I believe an ancestor of mine may have been born in Somerford Keynes in Gloucestershire. > I know he came here on a whaling ship from Bristol. Marie in Sydney . This talk of our ancestors never traveling far is rubbish . I have 1800 Cumbria to London and Yorkshire and Devon and married in Warwickshire 1841 and Staffordshire to Kent 1850 . Somerford Keynes to Bristol is only 50/60 Kms .
