Mention has been made of Yatton, today, so I thought I would look into what a traveller from Bristol to Yatton would see on a railway journey, between the two places, around 1902: Leaving Bristol by rail, the River Avon was soon crossed and travellers had a view, on the right, of the tall spire of St. Mary Redcliffe Church and the new tower on Brandon Hill. One and a quarter miles beyond Bedminster, the Portishead branch turned off on the right and there was a good view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Dundry Church tower could be seen in a prominent position on the left. On the right there was the mansion of Ashton Court, among the woods. Having passed Flax Bourton, from Nailsea, the woods of Brockley Combe could be seen on the left, while on the right, one and a half miles beyond the station, was the old manor house of Nailsea Court. The Nailsea Glass Works were in this vicinity. At Yatton Junction, four miles beyond Nailsea, the Wells branch turned off on the left. There was a little hotel, the Railway, just outside the station. A half a mile south east of the station, visitors would see Yatton church, with its truncated spire. And when you arrived at Yatton there were 2 connections available : one eastwards along the southern part of the Mendips, and the other westwards to Clevedon where you arrived at a delightful station close to the Triangle. Fond memories ! A bit later than Josephine's account, though.
