Author: maheather1 Surnames: Phillips, Cousins & Aplin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.som.general/12838.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: mikemorris5_1 I am a direct descendant of James Phillips and Jane Cousins through one of their sons, Philip, who farmed near Axminster, Devon during first half of nineteenth century.Philip married Mary Aplin at Thurlber in 1809. I am descended from both their eldest son, James, b Axminster, 1810 and youngest son, Samuel, b Axminster, 1822. A large number of their descendants moved to Sussex, mainly between 1896 and 1933, and farmed there, although the family has now virtually died out as active farmers. I can only think of one being left. Immediately after the 1939-45 war there were over a dozen Phillips' farming in Sussex all descended from the aforementioned James and Samuel.Sorry but can't help with the birthplace of James from Thurlbear.Would be intersted to know myself.
