If you look at the www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/ website and click on "Search Catalogues and Indexes" in the left-hand menu, there is a searchable index to the Bridgwater Shipping Crew Lists. (The Somerset Record office has the Bridgwater Port shipping registers [1786-1906] - ref. DD\RSH) The index shows Thomas SYMES on the "Ryl Forester" in: 1863 age 62 1864 age 63 1866 age 65 1867 age 66 1868 age 68 1869 age 67 There are also two younger SYMES listed for other ships. If you google a bit, you will find various references to the (presumably) "Royal Forester" which appears to have traded between Bridgwater and Cardiff. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/ShippingLists.html lists Thos. SYMES as master of the coastal ship the "Taunton" sailing to Bristol in 1830 (Pigots Directory). So you may find him further afield (simply away at sea) in the other census, Celia
