Can someone help decipher land assessments 1767-1832. In Banwell at the end of the yearly assessments, there is another form of entry called "Redeemed and Exonerated" with a list of landowners for part of their assessments. What does Redeemed and Exonerated mean with regard to the land assessments? Thanks for any help, Avril
Hi Avril, I'm just guessing, but I would think it means they paid their taxes and had their interest in the land returned. I'm basing this on my knowledge of Canadian Land Law as I was a conveyancer for over 25 years.
