If George had a child b 1836, he must have been born before 1820, probably well before... these are the only George Hain* in 1841 living in Somerset that fit George Haine abt 1816 Somerset, England Ditcheat, Somerset George Haine abt 1816 Somerset, England Tintinhull, Somerset George Haines abt 1801 Somerset, England Huntspill, Somerset Geo Hains abt 1813 Somerset, England Wedmore, Somerset None are weavers...the only apparently unmarried one (Tintinhull) is a male servant on a farm. > In the East Coker Burials 1813-1885 Hain Mary East Coker 28 May 1848 age 31 > this looks like his late wife. > The1841 census for Mary Hain abt 1835 East Coker, Somerset looks like the > one who married Robert Lacey a thatcher. I thought you said she was b c 1854 ? In 1881, the Mary b 1835 would have been 46 - according to the 1881 census, Mary Ann Lacey was 29, so they cannot be the same...OTOH, the 1835 Mary could well be the *daughter* of George and whoever his first wife was. In 1841, she is living with John and Elizabeth Hain...BUT she is the only member of the family NOT born in Somerset. So if her father were the George Hain who murdered his wife, his first wife may have died and he possibly left the child with his ?brother?. Given the big gap in ages between the children in the newspaper report, I'd say this is a possibility. I've sent you the 1841 image. There is a Jane Hain who might fit Deaths Jun 1838 Hain Jane Yeovil 10 412 The only way to find out for sure if there is a connection is to get the marriage certificate for Mary Ann who married Robert Lacey and see who her father was. Marriages Dec 1873 HAINE Mary Ann Yeovil 5c 902 The 1845 marriage certificate should also say whether or not George was a widower.
