I am new to your list and am now researching the HILL side of my family from Llangford Budville, Chard, Somerset. Mary Jane HILL b.1857 in Llangford Budville or Chard, Somerset was my Great Grandmother, whose father was James HILL and mother was Mary Ann. This family later moved to Trevethin. Glamorgan. I would be pleased to hear of anyone also researching this family. Regards to all, Gillie Bidborough. Kent
Hi Gillie, Chard and Langford Budville aren't in the same area of Somerset and, in fact, are quite a few miles apart. From the 1861 census, it seems Mary Jane HILL was born in Langford Budville (which is actually near Wellington, Somerset): 1861 census Delbridges, Langford Budville, Somerset James HILL, Head, Mar, 28, Ag Lab, Wellington, Somerset Mary Ann HILL, Wife, Mar, 26, Emp in Wool Manufacture, Langford Budville, Somerset Mary Jane HILL, Dau, 4, Scholar, Langford Budville, Somerset Ann HILL, Dau, 8 mo, Langford Budville, Somerset I had a look at David Cheek's very useful transcripts at http://www.pbenyon1.plus.com/PR_Index.html and it seems that James HILL was probably bap 20 May 1832, St John's Church, Wellington, Somerset, son of Thomas HILL and Jane FRY, who were married at St John's Church, Wellington, Somerset on 6 Jul 1814. Hope this helps!
