Hello Peter, I have a few details of the STANDERWICKs of Upottery in Devon (almost certainly included amongst those you have already), but have not traced a connection to members of the family around Ilminster / Broadway in Somerset - even though it is not a great distance away. There is a slight possibility that the Joseph STANDERWICK you mention could be the son of Richard STANDERWICK of Broadway (1612-1675) : he had a son Joseph whom I've been unable to trace (the parish registers for Broadway and some of the nearby parishes do not have good coverage until the 18th century). However, there is also an entry for STANDERWICK in the Exeter registers in the 16th century, so any connection may go back much earlier. That there is a connection seems highly likely, given the singularity of the name. The thought occurs to me that there might be a reference to Joseph in the Hearth Tax records for Upottery, but I'm not sure what records survive for Devon. Anyway, if you want any information about the Somerset families, let me know.
