Does anyone know if there might be some Scottish origin to the above family? We have generations of men named Andrew, James and Charles, with the earliest mention in Porlock [that I know of] being an AUCHTER BOND, which sounds a bit Scottish to me. If so, maybe they had Stuart sympathies? It's a thought anyway. Pleased for any clues, WENDY
Wendy As far as Scottish is concerned Auchter means high or high place ... or similar but I am not an expert; just lived there for a while.
