    3. I too subscribed during the last week - with the initial intention of reading the mail to get a feel for the list ,and then perhaps put in a plea for a little help - but given the close proximity of Halloween considered inappropriate to ask "Is there anybody there?" 3. I was a member of this list some years ago Stan, and actually re-joined last week. I always figured, if you want an answer you have to ask the question, and I was surprised that the list was so quiet and not as I remembered it. My question seems to have awakened it. 1. [ENG-SOM] ? Obit/burial for AXFORD was Re: Quiet list
    2. Stan Langley
    3. G.R.O. indexes indicate that the death of Rupert Laurence AXFORD was registered in the North Somerset registration district in Jan 1999 - he was 105 years of age. In view of this great age, I thought his passing may have warranted mention in the local press, perhaps an obit or funeral report, over and above the usual death announcement, so I enquired of the Weston-Super-Mare library and received the following reply:- "..............searched through the Weston Mercury from the end of December 1998 to the beginning of April 1999 initially looking for a death notice for an idea of what edition an obituary or funeral report would appear in. Unfortunately I was unable to find a death notice for Rupert Laurence Axford." The GRO refererence is all I have - I have no idea just where Rupert may have spent his last days. As he sits on an outer twig of my tree the expense of purchasing a death certificate is not really warranted. His birth was in Wiltshire, he married and lived in the London area however, being widowed in 1970, and I have no idea when or why he moved to the west country. Can anyone shed a little light? 3. I am on quite a few lists county and surname lists and it is much the same. There are are mostly folk lurking who have contributed during the past years, in order to keep lists alive, but it is hard work. Easier with surname lists than county lists. A Roll call sometimes generates interests at least you see if you have anyone researching any of your lines. Up to the moderator of course.
