Hi Has anyone got access to the original census pages I have been lookin up a Edwin Mabey born Haselbury Plunkett Somerset in 1867 I found him in the 1881 Census living at home age 14 years.in Haselbury Plunkett Somerset In 1888 his occupation was a Soldier I looked on the Free Census web site and found a Edward Mabey Age 23 Private in the Army Infantry in Farnborough. Born Haselbury Plunkett Somerset. I can not find any record of a Edward Mabey born Haselbury Plunkett Somerset. on the FreeBDM web Site. he would have been registered in Yeovil Somerset I know Edwin Mabey could have go overseas while in the Army but if someome could check the spelling of the name in the 1981 Census to see if it could be Edwin and not Edward TIA Ronald Chesney [email protected]

Ronald, I believe that Edward is in fact Edwin, from Edwins Army record: Signed on Nov 1887 at Taunton Somerset Light Infantry (previous done 5 year apprenticeship probably as a Carpenter) Served Gibraltar Nov 1891 - 1893, East Indies 1893 - 1895 and South Africa 1899 - 1900 Next of Kin: Father - Solomon, Mother - Elizabeth and sisters Mary Ellen, Rose Left at end of period a Lance Corporal in 1900 He would have been in barracks in 1891 with the Somerset L I The above is taken from WO97 Chelsea Pension records(National Archives) available from FindMyPast Re-enlisted Feb 1915 at Haselbury, immediately promoted to Lance Corporal (to Corporal in 1916) serve at home the whole period, demobilised 1919.
