Whilst at the Heritage Centre yesterday, I took the opportunity to ask about a new service they have there. The closed registers that were formerly held at various register offices around Somerset are now housed and conserved at the Heritage Centre. Unfortunately that doesn't mean there's public access to them, more's the pity BUT it is possible to order from there either in person (9GBP) or by phone or post (9.50 GBP). Whilst they prefer cash or a cheque, they can take plastic. There are forms held at the reception desk for personal visitors to order certs. Processing time is about 2 days although it is taking a little longer at them moment since the register offices had to close for two weeks prior to the move. They are still getting through the considerable backlog of orders that built up during the closure.
