Look on www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html The 1888, 1904 and 1930 1:2,500 maps show . Heading out of Bridgwater along West Street, Halswell Lane ran south-east - after and parallel to the canal. There is a Halswell Close in the same area now - you can find it on Google Maps. Northgate Lodge would have been the NHS hospital which took over on the workhouse site after 1948. See www.workhouses.org.uk/Bridgwater/ The Somerset Heritage Centre http://www1.somerset.gov.uk/archives/ does hold some records including: Bridgwater Northgate Lodge Registers of inmates C\PA\B/50 ? - 1969 Bridgwater Northgate Lodge Register of Deaths C\PA\B/51 1914 - 1958 but they are not open for public viewing because of their recent date.
