They wouldn't (or shouldn't) give you any details but they might give you the date of the inquest. There's no J HAMILTON death registered in 1975 (as you probably already know) but there is one in 1977: John Finlay HAMILTON (DoB 2 Jan 1890 Mendip RD). I don't think it would be him though. It's his age rather than the year that doesn't really fit.
