Thank you to Charani: following your reply I contacted the Coroner's office, whose contact details were found here http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/Community/Births+deaths+marriages+and+life+even ts/Deaths/coroners.htm and was told that if I write to them, they will search their archives, and if successful they will inform me what charge will be made to supply a transcription. (There was no questioning of who I was or why I needed to know)! At this stage they wouldn't give me any idea of how big the fee might be!! (If it's sizeable I might be satisfied to get the date of the inquest and then do a newspaper search). And thank you to Tony: those links were interesting. They wouldn't (or shouldn't) give you any details but they might give you the date of the inquest.
